Calleah Solomon is a Counseling Intern at Hidden Stream Counseling. Originally from the Bronx, NY, Calleah was raised primarily in Raleigh, NC. She is currently pursuing her Master’s of Arts Degree in Dance Movement Therapy with a concentration in Couples and Family Therapy at Antioch University – New England, and is working under the supervision of Tanya St. Julien Denson, MA, LCMHC-S, NCC. Prior to pursuing her master’s degree, Calleah earned her Bachelor of Arts in Arts Management and Dance Studies at Salem College in Winston Salem, NC. Calleah spent several years working in Greensboro and Winston Salem, but now continues to reside in the Triangle area.
Calleah’s journey of pursuing a career in mental health began during her years as an elementary school teacher, where she gained an understanding of teaching from a person-centered approach and aimed to cultivate a classroom where students could be seen, heard, supported, and valued by surrounding educators and their peers. She has served with Joy Prom, an event for differently-abled adults, and has been a volunteer mentor with Mariposas, a women’s empowerment group. Calleah has provided counsel and assisted in crisis management in many roles, including her community, church, and workplaces. She currently works with adolescents, adults, couples, and families dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, life stressors and transitions. Calleah often incorporates expressive modalities in order for clients to enhance their personal development in therapy and throughout life.
Calleah’s approach to therapy is derived from, but not limited to, techniques in Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT,) and Gottman’s Method. Her experience in the performing and expressive arts has led her to value movement as a tool to connect mind with body. Calleah believes that interweaving expressive modalities such as dance, visual art, drama, and music with talk therapy can deepen self-discovery and expression. Her training in exercising awareness for the innermost thoughts leads her to cultivate spaces that produce open communication.
Reflecting on her own journeys through overcoming challenges, Calleah strives to help individuals, couples, and families navigate through processes of healing relationships with self, others, and the environments in which they function.
