Hidden Stream Counseling is committed to the training and development of exceptional mental health professionals. As the demand for qualified therapists continues to grow, we recognize the importance of working with well-qualified master’s level Counseling Interns to continue to serve our community, now and in the future.
Our Counseling Interns are carefully selected by our supervising provider, Tanya St. Julien-Denson, MA, LCMHC-S, NCC. Our interns have completed the required coursework to obtain their master’s degree and are now fully focused on client care. Interns work closely with their supervisor to collaborate on all client cases, ensuring the highest level of service to our clients.
We regularly receive excellent feedback from individuals and couples working with our interns. Most clients share with us that although initially hesitant about working with an intern, they are very glad they did so.
Working with Counseling Interns also helps to remove financial barriers to mental health care. We offer uninsured and out of network clients a greatly reduced private pay rate when working with our interns.

Common myths about working with Counseling Interns
“Interns are always very young, and just out of college” – The majority of our interns are embarking on second careers, or working to progress their current careers, and tend to be in their 30’s, 40’s, or even 50’s.
“Interns have no experience in this field” – Most of our interns have gained experience in the mental health or community service fields prior to joining us.
“Interns won’t have any life experience like I do” – Many of our interns have experienced professional careers, marriage, children, and many more of the ups and downs of life.
“Interns won’t be able to relate to my situation” – It is quite common for interns to have experienced a variety of life’s challenges, and some were even inspired to work in this field after their own experiences in counseling.
