David L. Wingfield Jr. is a Counseling Intern at Hidden Stream Counseling. Originally from Danville, Virginia, David has made Raleigh, North Carolina his home. He is currently pursuing a Master of Social Work degree with a concentration in Individual and Family Clinical Practice at Liberty University and is working under the supervision of Tanya St. Julien Denson, MA, LCMHC-S, NCC. Prior to pursuing his master’s degree, David earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Liberty University.
David’s journey into the mental health field began in 2020 when he spent time working at a residential behavioral health center for adolescents. In this role, David facilitated group therapy sessions and worked individually with clients to help them develop coping skills and build resilience, particularly in response to traumatic experiences. This experience ignited his passion for supporting individuals through their healing journeys.
David’s therapeutic approach is strongly grounded in Person-Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). He also integrates various frameworks, including Systems Theory, Psychosocial Development Theory, and Social Learning Theory, to tailor interventions to each client’s unique needs. David often takes a strengths-based approach to counseling, helping clients recognize their inner resilience and reframe life’s challenges as opportunities for growth.
In addition to his clinical work, David is the founder of “David Cares,” a community outreach program aimed at increasing mental health awareness and accessibility among underserved populations in the area. Through workshops, local partnerships, and educational resources, David Cares works to break down barriers to mental health care and promote holistic well-being. David strives to walk alongside each of his clients with compassion, supporting them as they explore new possibilities and move toward meaningful change.
