Kathryn is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a native of North Carolina. Kathryn attended Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She acquired her Master’s in Social Work from East Carolina University in 2005 and has been clinically licensed since 2009. Kathryn lives in Raleigh with her husband, three boys, and her dog, Maple.
In counseling adults, Kathryn has worked extensively in caregiving situations surrounding grief and loss. She believes that the power of therapy can give you tools to reduce negative thoughts and feelings. Her goal is to help clients find a place of greater peace and insight. Kathryn worked as a social worker in the hospice setting for over ten years as well as with clients and families experiencing financial strain and hardships and difficult family dynamics. Kathryn also served as a clinical case manager in the hospital setting and cancer center on campus, working with individuals and families in varying stages of their illnesses.
With twenty years of experience in grief, loss, transition, caregiver issues, and other significant changes in life’s circumstances, Kathryn’s focus on insight-oriented and narrative therapy, including mindfulness and self-compassion practices, helps to meet the client where they are, with warmth and intuition centered practice.
In the therapeutic setting, Kathryn uses an insight-oriented and psychodynamic framework, along with a narrative therapy approach, allowing people to retell their story, keeping the parts that empower us while reframing any old or stubborn negative biases about our stories. Combining Strength-Based and Person-Centered approaches, Kathryn’s practice in therapy helps the client explore the connectedness of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, in order to feel safe and gain ownership and autonomy around the therapeutic experience.
